A REPORT ON THE TRIP TO AMRITSAR 21st -22nd SEPTEMBER, 2009

A two day educational cum recreational trip was organized for the students of class IV-V from 21st -22nd September’09.Twenty eight students went for the trip and were duly escorted by 3 staff members. The stay was at ‘Hotel MK International’.

On 21st students visited “WAGAH BORDER” to see the Flag off Ceremony of the INDIAN and Pakistani Armed Forces. Wagah is a border town and it is 27 Km from Amritsar on the Indian side. There is daily flag raising and lowering ceremony at Wagah Border, done with fascinating pomp and ceremony that involves lots of tall soldiers in massive turbans goose-stepping about and slamming gates. Both the Indian and Pakistani border forces do this and it has become a tradition for people from both sides to gather and see this. Children really enjoyed it

Next day, the students visited “GOLDEN TEMPLE” which means “holy pool of nectar”. It is the spiritual and cultural centre of the Sikh Religion. It was a learning experience for the students about the rich culture of the state

The students were taken to “JALIANWALA BAGH” to pay homage to the people who were killed on April 13,1919 by Brigadier General Reginald Dyer. Children saw the bullet marks as well as the well in which people jumped to save their lives from the bullets. The historical significance of the place brought back the history and lessons the students learnt.

The students were able to know how freedom fighters gave their life for Indian Freedom. It also inculcated in them important values like discipline, punctuality, teamwork, co-operation, leadership etc. The trip was ‘educational’ in the real sense of the word.
